Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Liu Guijin hosted farewell reception in Cape Town

H.E.Mr. Liu Guijin, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of South Africa and Mrs. Liu hosted a farewell reception in Cape Town, South Africa on March 6th, 2007. Hon.Ms.Naledi Pandor, Minister of Education, Hon.Mr.Pallo Jordan, Minister of Arts and Culture, Hon.Mr. Mosibudi Magena, Minister of Science and Technology, Hon.Mr. Miniwa Mahlangu, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Hon.Ms. Sue van der Merwe, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Members of Parliament from all political parties, Chairpersons of Portfolio Committees of the National Assembly, personages from business, education and media and representatives of local Chinese Community totaling around 100 guests attended the reception. Several cabinet Ministers also bid farewell to Ambassador Liu via their representatives.

During Ambassador Liu Guijin's speech, he expresses his thankfulness to the high rank officials and other friends from all walks of life for their presence and their support provided to the Chinese Embassy and himself. Ambassador Liu Guijin says that China and South Africa has maintained frequent high level exchanges. President Hu Jintao and President Mbeki have visited each other within three months. Premier Wen Jiabao of China also visited South Africa last year. The cooperation in fields of politics, economic and trade, science and technology and education has been deepened. The bilateral strategic partnership has been enhanced. During his tenure, bilateral trade volume has increased from 20 billion to almost 100 billion and the bilateral investment also witnesses sharp increase. The "Liquid-to-oil" project has been carried out steadily by Sasol and the Chinese Companies. Ambassador liu says that China-South Africa maintains good relationship is the result of mutual efforts and hopefully the development of bilateral relations could be brought to a new level.

Hon.Ms.Naledi Pandor speaks at the reception as the representative of South Africa government.She summarized Ambassador Liu Guijin's working course since 2001 and speaks highly of Ambassador Liu's efforts and contribution in enhancing China-South Africa relationship. She expresses the appreciation to Ambassador and Mrs. Liu for their hard work during their 6-year-term in South Africa. She says that Ambassador Liu's efforts are essential to the development of bilateral relations in all fields. She hopes that Ambassador Liu could continue to work to promote China-South Africa relations.

The atmosphere of the reception is ardent. The high ranking officials and other guests attending the reception bid farewell and take photos with the Ambassador and Mrs. Liu.
