Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Zhong Jianhua elaborated on China-SA relationship and FM Yang Jiechi's visit to China at a live interview with SABC AFrica's Live programme "180 Degress live in Africa" on Jan.17, 2008. Ambassador Zhong said that January 1, 2008 marks the 10th anniversary of China-South Africa diplomatic relations. Over the past 10 years, bilateral relations have witnessed a rapid, all-round development. China 's Foreign Minister Yang recently paid a highly successful visit to South Africa and other 3 African countries. This is his first visit to Africa since Minister Yang assumed his post as Foreign Minister and South Africa is the first leg of the 4 nation visit. During the visit, Minister Yang met with President Mbeki and held discussions with SA foreign Minister Zuma. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on deepening the bilateral realtions and have reached broad consensus. Minister Yang's visit pushed forward the implementation of the eight policy measures that President Hu Jintao announced at the FOCAC Beijing summit and promoted China-South Africa and China-Africa stretegic cooperation.
When asked about the quality of Chinese products, Ambassador Zhong said that quality safety is a global issue. The Chinese government has always been highly responsible.Chinese products are popuar among consumers. China and South Africa's trade volume has increased to 14.04 billion US dollars, which has increased by 6.5 times in 10 years' time. If Chinese products were really substandard, bilateral trade can never achieve such increase.
About China's establishing diplomatic relationship with Malawi, Ambassador Zhong said that China is a responsible and highly principled country. China is willing to establish diplomatic relationsihp with all African coutries. China-Malawi's diplomatic relationship serves the desire and benefit of the people of both countries
