Based on the agreement on education cooperation and exchange between China and South Africa, Chinese Government offers five fully funded scholarships to South African students. The scholarship shall be provided every other year. Assisted by the South African Department of Education in the selection and interview, and then examined by relevant Chinese universities, 4 South African students were admitted by China Scholarship Council to study in Chinese universities. Also, another 8 South African students selected by Chinese Embassy in South Africa were admitted. On August 30, 2006, these 12 students will leave for such famous Chinese universities as Beijing University, Renmin University of China for further study. One of the students will study for his PHD, 5 for Master's degree, 3 for Bachelor's and 3 for language general scholars. The students will enjoy full scholarships with round-trip tickets offered by Chinese Government. They all expressed that they would cherish the hard-earned honor and opportunity.

Since 2003, 23 South African students and government employees in total have obtained Chinese Government Scholarship, 3 South African students have obtained C sort scholarship.
