A work group led by Mr. Lei Jiafu, vice minister of State Forestry Administration of China (SFA) paid a visit to Department of Water Affairs and Forestry(DWAF), South Africa for attending the First Joint Meeting with regard to bilateral forestry cooperation under the framework of MOU   from July 23th to 27th . After the discussion held on July 26th, the SFA and DWAF reached the record of First Joint Meeting successfully.

According to the record, both sides agreed to focus on the four fields for concrete cooperation firstly, which covers afforestation,  forestry resources inventory, fire prevention and capacity building. There will be organized two groups of experts of the republic of South Africa in the fields of afforestation and forestry resources inventory to pay a study tour to China in April or May, 2008. Subsequently, there will be arranged one group of experts of the P.R. China in the fields of fire prevention and capacity building to pay a study tour to South Africa in July, 2008. The implementation program bilaterally should be finalized by the experts after the groups tour.

Both sides agreed to send the record report to the Bi-National Commission (BNC) in line with the relevant article of the previous MOU.
