CHINESE SPORT DELEGATION VISITED SOUTH AFRICA

Upon the invitation of Department of Sport & Recreation of South Africa, a 5-member Chinese Sport Delegation led by H E Mr. Wang Jun, Deputy Minister of General Administration of Sport of the People's Republic of China(GACS)paid a successful official visit to the Republic of South Africa from August 2nd to 6th, 2007.

H E Mr. Makhenekesi Stofile, Minister of Department of Sport & Recreation of South Africa met the delegation in Pretoria SA. He warmly welcome Chinese Sport Delegation's visit to SA and expressed thankfulness to the GACS for the excellent hospitality provided to SA delegation during their visit in June 2007. Chinese delegation also met Mr. Gert Oosthuizen, Deputy Minister of Department of Sport & Recreation of SA and made an in-depth discussion on many issues. Both sides agreed to strengthen exchange and cooperation between the two countries. Mr. Wang Jun expressed that the good friendship between the two countries was established and great achievements have been obtained in the sport field since The Memorandum of Understanding on Sport Cooperation was signed in 2001. He also made a brief introduction of the current situation of Chinese sports and system. Mr. Oosthuizen said they got active information on how to consummate relevant processes for undertaking 2010 World Cups through the introduction of preparation for Beijing 2008 Olympic games from Mr. Wang Jun. The Memorandum of Understanding Between The Government of People's Republic of China and The Republic of South Africa on Sport Cooperation was signed, which is a important achievement of this visit.

Chinese Sport Delegation also met Mr. Moss Mashishi, President of SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), the main officials of Gauteng Provincial Department and Western Cape Town Provincial Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, visited High Performance Centre of University of Pretoria, Loftus Rugby Stadium and Athlone and Green Point Stadium during their stay in SA.
