Purpose of the Chinese Government Scholarship Programmes

In order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and South African people, and to develop and exchange in fields of 

education, science, culture, economy and trade between China and South Africa, China and South Africa governments has signed an Agreement on Cooperation

 in the Field of Education, the Chinese Government will continue to provide to the Government of South Africa fully funded government scholarship for three students 

to study in China in the academic year 2008/2009. The categories of applicants include undergraduates,master degree, doctor degree students and 

students for advanced studies.

Eligibility

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.

2. Education background and age limit:

- Undergraduate: senior high school or above, under the age of 25

- Master: bachelor's degree or above, under the age of 35

- Doctoral: master's degree or above, under the age of 40

- Chinese language students: senior high school or above, under the age of 35

- General scholar: two year of undergraduate studies or above, under the age of 45

- Senior scholar: master or higher degree or hold academic titles of associate professor or higher, under the age of 50

Details of the Chinese Government Scholarship ( full scholarship )

- Exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, fee for laboratory experiment, fee for internship, fee for basic learning materials and accommodation;  

- Living allowance and a one-off settlement subsidy;

- Fee for outpatient medical service, comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China;

- A hard-seat train ticket between the port of entry on registration or the port of departure on graduation and the city where the host university or the university of Chinese 

language studies is located ( a hard-berth train ticket for over-night trip );

- Provide return international air tickets.

Application for the Chinese Government Scholarship

1. The application season for the Chinese Government Scholarship Program is from February 1 to end of March. Details on the application procedures should

2. Scholarship Application

Applicants should meet the basic qualifications prescribed in above ELIGIBILITY, and must fill in the application forms (please download from www.csc.edu.cn ) 

strictly in accordance with requirements. They also need to provide documents including notarized photocopies of diplomas, transcripts, study plan, health certificate 

(please download Foreigner Physical Examination Form from www.csc.edu.cn also) and recommendation letters. Application materials deadline is April 5, 2008, 

arrived after the date will not be processed.

3. Choice of Institutions of Higher Education and Specialty

Applicants for Chinese Government Scholarships must Choose their target institutions and specialties from the institutions of higher education designated by the 

Ministry of Education of China. Please check the Directory of the Chinese Institutions Admitting International students under Chinese Government 

Scholarship Programme or http://www.csc.edu.cn for details.

4. The Department of Education of South Africa is kindly asked to designate a university to hold an interview with the applicants, with a representative of the 

Chinese Embassy being present. The interview shall take place no later than April 15, 2008.

One-sided Chinese Government Scholarship

Since 2006, Chinese Embassy recruited 10 South African students per year for Chinese government scholarship, the number of students to be enrolled decided 

by the Embassy side. Chinese Embassy will continue to provide to the Government of South Africa fully funded government scholarship not included 

international air ticket for ten (10) government functionaries to study in China in the academic year 2008/2009. The categories of applicants include postgraduate 

students and students for advanced studies. The applicants can contact with Education Section, Chinese Embassy in Pretoria, the application season is same above.
