Chinese courses will be taught at St Alban's College

To assist St Alban's College to enhance the program in Chinese politics and economics and offer Chinese Language course at St Alban's College in order to disseminate and popularize the Chinese language, The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of South Africa, authorized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and St Alban's College, have through cordial discussions reached an agreement that a teacher will be sent to St Alban's College by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

Ambassador Zhong Jianhua, on behalf the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and Mr. Tom Hamiltom, Headmaster on behalf of the St Albans College have signed a Partnership Agreement on the Employment of a Chinese Teacher between the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and St Alban's College at Pretoria on 4th March 2008.

The Ministry of Education of China has entrusted the Office of Chinese Language Council International to choose and supervise the teacher. The teacher will work at St Alban's College for 2 years. According to the requirements of St Alban's College, the teacher, who will assume duties in September 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter, should have rich teaching experience and a good command of Chinese and English.

The College Executive and College Council members, student's representatives, local media and officials from Chinese Embassy attended the signing ceremony. St Alban's College's plan is to introduce an International Studies Module include Chinese, Politics and Economics. This will be a compulsory course for all students at year 10 level. The College also allows students to study Chinese across the year 8- Year 12 band. These courses would form the platform through which language, education, culture could be exchanged between China and South Africa.
