| Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Pays Official Visit to South Africa |

| From January 15 to 17, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi paid an official visit to South Africa. During the visit, Yang met with South African President Kgalema Motlanthe at the Presidential Residence in Pretoria on January 16 and held talks with South African Foreign Minister Dlamini Zuma in Cape Town, exchanging in-depth views on bilateral ties as well as issues of common concern. On January 16, Yang also met with Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Zhong Jianhua, Fang Li, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Johannesburg, Liu Yantao, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Durban and the embassy and consulate staff. This is the last leg of Yang's four-nation African tour, the first of this kind this year. |
