2007/06/26

PARIS, June 25 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary general Ban Ki-moon declared here on Monday that Chinese government played a "constructive role" in the settling process of Darfur issue.

During a press conference following the enlarged international contact group meeting on Darfur, Ban said he was "satisfied" with China's contribution in the efforts to solve the Darfur issue.

China who was nominated recently a special representative on the Darfur issue, tried to persuade the Sudanese government to "fully cooperate" with international community, particularly with UN and African Union (AU), according to the UN chief.

Zhang Yesui, Chinese vice foreign minister led the Chinese delegation to attend the Paris meeting.

French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner said Zhang had participated "fully and in a extremely satisfying way" to the setting points of situation in Darfur.
