SABC expresses intetests in cooperation with Chinese news agencies

H.E.Mr.Zhong Jianhua, Ambassador of China to South Africa, meets with Mr. Sonwabo Eddie Funde, Chairman of SABC Board and Dr. Snuki Zikalala, Group Executive of news and current Affairs, SABC(South Africa Broadcasting Company) on July 31.  

 

The guests introduced SABC's tenet, institution, services and its history. They also expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Chinese news agencies.

Ambassador Zhong, upon request, introduced briefly China's domestic and foreign policy, social and economic development and the development of media. Ambassador Zhong also had indepth discussions on the development of South Africa and some other hot issues with the guests. Ambassdor Zhong assured the guests that Chinese side highly support the exchanges and cooperation between the media of two countries so that to deepen mutual understanding and enhance mutual friendship. The Embassy of China in South Africa is ready to provide assistance on SABC's cooperation with the Chinese side.

SABC is the leader of SA's media organizations and also play a key role in the whole Africa continent. It owns 19 radio channels and 4 TV channels, with 7 news bureaus abroad. SABC News International channel was inaugurated on July 20 and is now test broadcasted in day time. It will become a 24-hours channel from April,2008. Most of the programmes are be made in English while the channel also provides some French programmes. President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa inaugurated the channel and delivered a speech, in which he encouraged the new channel to tell Africa's own stories, to provide a more balanced picture of the reality in all parts of Africa continent to the world and vice versa.
